President’s Column

Eric Sauer, Ph.D.

Greetings Directors,

I hope that this brief message finds you all doing well and adjusting well to your fall routines.  In Michigan, the leaves have changed and the daylight hours are scarce.  Thinking about much sunnier days, it was great catching up with many of you last August at APA in San Diego, CA.  Although APTC has only a few formal activities at APA, we did have a well-attended social hour and many of us also met for a planning breakfast.  I am pleased to report that several of our fellow directors were also actively involved with paper sessions, symposia, and receiving important awards.

Thinking about our upcoming mid-year meeting, I am happy to report that plans are taking shape. After much deliberation, the Executive Committee voted last summer to have our meetings in New Orleans next March 10-14, 2011.  Part of the decision was finding a location that really needed our tourism dollars. With the Hurricane Katrina and the more recent gulf oil spill, New Orleans seemed like a good choice.

We have reserved a block of rooms at Chateau Bourbon, which is a French-Quarter style that looks beautiful (www.chateaubourbonneworleans.com).  Over the years, I have found that our mid-year meetings are the most central part of my membership in this fantastic organization. The programming is always enriching and I cherish the relationships with colleagues that have been nurtured at these meetings.  I hope that many of you decide to make the trek to New Orleans next March.

Eric
