ADPTC ANNUAL MEETING

ADPTC held its annual meeting August 21st in conjunction with the 2002 APA Convention in Chicago. Thirty Clinic Directors from around the country participated.
The day started with a "New Directors' Breakfast" in which executive committee members and others welcomed newcomers to the organization. Dr. Linda Behrendt, Director of Professional Affairs for the Illinois Psychological Association, provided an overview of the federal HIPAA regulations, followed by discussion as to the implications of HIPAA for training clinics.
President-elect Phyllis Terry Friedman then spoke to the group about her clinic's experience creating a business plan. She had consulted the business school on her campus and worked with a group of MBA students to examine all aspects of the training clinic. Included was a SWOT Analysis, and formal planning for marketing, increasing revenue through

strategic alliances, accountability and enhancing motivation.
ADPTC provided the group with a sack lunch over while members networked and discussed topics from the morning presentations.

After lunch we heard an update on national developments related to establishing training competencies.  Bob Hatcher and Kim Lassiter presented a document they are developing regarding the Prerequisites and Goals of Practicum Training in Psychology. Bob framed the work for us in the context of Dreyfus's model of developing expertise that has been applied to nursing. In this model, practicum students would be considered moving from novice to advanced beginner.  A list of core competencies was discussed. The group suggested this list be placed on the website and discussed further on our listserv.
The afternoon included two interrelated presentations on out

comes assessment. Dr. Jeffrey Gray presented on his company's outcomes management software involving the OQ. Eric Sauer shared how his clinic at Western Michigan is using the OQ 45.2 and providing feedback to trainees. There was interest expressed by the group in forming an ADPTC practice network as many ADPTC clinics are now using the OQ. (Several years ago, ADPTC negotiated a discount with the distributors of OQ. Email me as secretary for more information).
A brief secretary/ treasurer report was provided at the meeting. As of August, ADPTC has 120 clinic/directors members and 16 associate members (i.e., DCTs, assistant or past directors). Our balance of funds is $10,605 excluding expenses associated with the meeting.

Respectively,
